It's been a long time since I read the Game of Thrones series (right now, I'm trying to catch up on the TV show), so maybe my opinion would change if I read it again now, but I honestly found Jon Snow's sections some of the most boring. It's interesting to hear someone who had a completely different reaction.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I don't think the first Cars was anywhere near Pixar's worst movie. Yeah, it's not nearly as creative or revolutionary as some of the studio's other movies, but I think it's perfectly enjoyable, the kind of movie that I can watch when I want to feel comfortable and relaxed. I would be interested in updates on your classes. I'm in my sophomore year in college, and I'm taking Introduction to Creative Writing this semester (I'm majoring in English and planning on minoring in psychology). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to take any film classes yet; I don't think my college has a huge

@blooptaabi:disqus I guess I understand what you're saying, but I just think that "badass" can be synonymous with "great". An impeccably staged (to borrow your words) action blockbuster like The Dark Knight can be be just as worthy of praise and attention as any intimate, character-driven indie. What makes Memento

@avclub-3bca94e353e508c1a49bf984fc5c346d:disqus Yes, Batman movies pretty much by definition are meant to appeal to a broad audience, and you could consider it a "brand", but Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy is about as personal and unique a blockbuster as you can get. It's part of an ongoing franchise, but

Heh. Liked for the $150 million+ one.

@blooptaabi:disqus I think Inception is great, and I've seen it three times by now. I couldn't give less of a shit about its thematic resonance (The Dark Knight is the only Nolan movie I really enjoy for its themes, and even then, I don't think it's profound so much as complex and intriguing); I just find it

I think that The Dark Knight Rises could be considered "supreme cinema art" as much as any other movie. There are few things that bug me more than when people act like good/deep/indie movies = art and bad/escapist/blockbuster movies = entertainment. It's all art, people, just like all paintings, regardless of their

@avclub-18877d5cddec83c44f7a7cd66d3c825f:disqus That's what I thought too. Again, judging from the trailer, it looks as though Luhrmann is taking the romance completely seriously, but the whole point of the book is that Daisy isn't a perfect dream girl. She's superficial, petty, selfish, self-indulgent and callous.

Exactly. I feel like Luhrmann is trying to be faithful to the book as far as the events go, but judging from the trailer, the tone and characters seem so wrong. Either make a real adaptation that at least attempts to understand the book's message or do something completely original and different. You can't have it
