Yeah, despite the stars, "The Sting" kind of has a 70's made-for-tv vibe. It's very artificial and staged so the stakes never seem that high.

I wonder why Pallid Man didn't take Jennifer Goines when he first confronted her at Markridge two years ago. Why did he wait two years?

They were going to call it "The Smack" but the Sugar Smacks people complained. Dig'em was named as a plaintiff.

Now I'm just sad.

Have we all been watching the same guy? He's one of the worst parts of everything I've seen him in. He seems to only play variations of smug asshole. He does the worst thing an actor can do, which is draw so much attention to his line readings that he completely loses the moment. He never seems to be any character

They should have just called "The McCarthys", "that new show that your mom watches".

Forgot to add good article, though. It was a very good show and Todd did a great job writing about it.

I think it's easy to see the influence of 80's dramedies on tv since. The quasi-experimental nature of playing with the old rules and expectations of tv drama and comedy lead to the Joss Whedon and Aaron Sorkin shows in the 90's, and pretty much laid the groundwork for the current golden age.

There's a lot of "the show wants us to think this but we don't" in this review. Maybe they're trying to keep it not so simple. Joe can be inspiring and he can be a petulant asshole. Gordon is brilliant in his desire and destructive in his mania for it. That's been the point of the show, I think. They're all flawed

Maybe it’s a subversively brilliant parody of the found footage horror genre. You know, where you stare at a stagnant screen for minutes at a time trying to figure out if something is moving. In this case, it never moves. For the whole movie. Brilliant!

Oh, but "baby fish mouth" is sweeping the nation.

Nope.  I remember Christopher Lloyd (as Jim Ignatowski) singing it on an episode of "Taxi".  He went on a blind date with Marsha Wallace, who pretty much played herself.

Yeah, I get the points about the song being more repressed pain than gleeful. But like the colonel said, it just sounds so gleeful. Tough call. But glad I wasn't the only one who thought of it.

Jangle Pop
"I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better (When You're Gone)" by The Byrds.

But "The Straight Story" and "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" were… you know… good.

Whoopi Goldberg won an Oscar for saying, "Molly, you in danger girl!"

You're all worthless and weak!
What about Mark Metcalf? Played Doug Niedermeyer in "Animal House", and then paraphrased lines from that role in the video for Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It".
