I'm an on-and-off again anime fan - I loved Cowboy Bebop and the works of Miyazaki, for instance - but I just couldn't get through Akira. The first hour of it, at least, seemed like the epitome of everything I hate about bad anime: hyperviolence, ridiculous female characters, dialogue a fevered adolescent boy might

I can't say I've seen any of these other things Eliza's been in, but she was AWESOME in True Lies.

Hey - so if the smoke monster changes people, or takes their forms, or influences their behavior in some way - what about when Locke comes face to face with it waaaay back in Season One and just smiles? Does that mean Locke has been under the influence of the monster since then? Somehow, I doubt that, but it does

Chinese Democracy…
One question…why do we assume that Axl was embroiled in a tortuous artistic childbirth for years? Maybe the guy is a world class procrastinator. Just sayin'.

He dies. (But he comes back in three days.)

What? The movie totally went into that. That's the entire point of the movie, and much of the third act. Maybe you should watch it again.

"What's important is what you like, not what you are like"
I once watched Rushmore with a girl, who said it was "kind of silly" and then told me if I liked that I'd looove Van Wilder.

Somewhat leery…
I fear this is going to be like that time I rented a Bela Tarr movie thinking "oh man, this sounds absolutely amazing" but I ended up falling asleep four times while watching it, and when I finally made it through the whole thing I wound up thinking it was utterly pretentious and dour. But I'm going

first album?
The Sign by Ace of Base. I'm not proud. Or am I?

Please cover this!
I frickin' love this show. I just have to catch up, is all.

Speaking of cult series set in hospitals…
Any chance we'll see a writeup of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace here?

I have to agree with this guy. Nothing is more obnoxious (or predictable) than backlash. Is it okay to like anything yet? No? Wake me up when everything doesn't suck.

Row Row Row Your Boat
"Row Your Boat" is also sung in the beginning of the excruciatingly awful (yet campy and hilarious) Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Coincidence?

Not a bad idea - although I'm somewhat leery of used DVDs due to scratches and whatnot. I still wish they put more compelling content on the second disc. There's nothing I love more than good special features, and there's nothing I hate more than a point and click trivia game that rewards me with clips of the movie

addendum?
How about that awful Three Doors Down song about the National Guard? I wouldn't even know it exists, except the video plays before almost every movie I've seen in theatres this summer. "Citizen Soldier" I think it's called. From what I recall, it's not quite as militant and ignorant as some of these, but

Great movies…
Now if only they put out reasonably-priced DVDs. I refuse to buy an inflated double-disc film for $25-30, especially when the second disc is going to end up a coaster/frisbee. Maybe if they took a note from Criterion and put interesting features on the second disc, it might be worth it. I know this is

Probably more like "let's get the guy behind Alias and Lost and Mission Impossible 3 and Cloverfield and geekgasms everywhere to direct this."

Thanks
It was nice to watch along with you and rediscover Twin Peaks all over again. Any chance of future Classic TV Club entries covering The Prisoner? I'd love to read some current analysis and criticism of that series, and I'd say it's about time for me to blow the dust off my DVDs.
