With the protagonist playing an educated, powerful black woman, I think we can overlook the fact that we don't have a gay character. Diversity of cast is one of the few things the show actually has going for it.
EDIT: Isn't Cyrus gay? Not that he's the best representation for the gay community by any means…
The UK heavily tightened its visas to non-EU citizens when the far right got more power over the past few years. My best advice to you is network even harder than you study. Getting a US work visa is mission impossible, and it's 2x harder to get a UK one. Doable, but it's a lot of work.
I think I used to live 2 blocks from there. That's in W1 on Regent St, right?
And congrats! :) How long is that program and what are the exit options?
And thank you for using apropos correctly. I think I've seen that word used correctly about 5% of the time.
Ah, yes. American Crime Story. I'd forgotten about that one. I'm sure he will delicately handle the sensitive topic of race relations with his trademark subtle touch. That show has so much potential for hilarity and I'm eagerly anticipating that.
I haven't found anything good to hate-watch lately. We had a friend on Survivor who didn't last long, but we watched the whole season anyways. And I guess that's the only bad tv I've watched. Any suggestions?
And more importantly, are you ready for Hannibal? So damn excited.
I watched Hostages and The Following for the sole purpose of better appreciating Sonia's reviews. I can't say I entirely agree with Sonia's world view, but damn she's smart and funny.
Or maybe take a page from The Killing and do a season-long plot line? But one that actually wraps up in one season, very unlike Rosie Larson or B613. I had to laugh when the actress who played Rosie Larson was a central character on Shonda's other terrible show.
Hate-watching a really bad show that's so bad it's funny can be way funnier than even the best scripted comedies. I'm reasonably certain I laughed way harder watching Siberia than I do watching Veep, and Veep is legitimately hilarious.
The entry was surely written by someone who takes the show seriously. I'd be willing to bet that there's a strong negative correlation between those who take Scandal seriously and those who are able to write sentences that make sense.
A few thoughts:
Joe Morton and Kerry Washington are quite possibly the worst actors ever. They make Emma Roberts and Ben Affleck look like highly competent thespians.
Bellamy Young was on Celebrity Jeopardy and was getting a few very difficult questions correct. Turns out she's a Yale grad. I would have to imagine a…
That's fair. I really like that actress so I'm willing to be a bit more lenient than you. Emily Riaz? Rios? Something like that. I loved her in The Bridge and Breaking Bad and happy to keep seeing her pop up here and there.
Immagonnabe the contrarian voice here. Not to say I loved this episode, but at least as far as Scandal goes, I found it more entertaining than much of the schlock they've served us over the past few years. The in-joking between Jake and captive dude who must do a lot of Crossfit as they made fun of Rowan was…
You do have a valid point. I think much of what makes her so likeable is that she's grounded in reality, you know, that one little tiny island of reality surrounded by the sea of riduculata that is Scandal.
I came in to say that the VP is now one of my favorite characters on tv, but it looks like that's already been covered. I love that they took a woman who isn't traditionally attractive and gave her a subtly powerful character who manages to be funny yet seemingly omniscient. The way she bumbles around with zero social…
A CIA agent would never be working in DC anyways. The fact that she spent so much time there was what was ridiculous.
And of course, the moment she leaves the CIA, no more DC. Go fig.
I go back and forth on this one. Do Little Emma Adderall's facile arguments amuse me or bore me?
I have made the following conclusion: why can't it be both?!
Oh, and decode this: shut the fuck up.
[insert Liz Lemon epic eye roll]
I will agree with you there was misogyny galore in this episode and a few others this season, but not every pejorative directed at a woman is misogyny. Women can be bitches the same way men can be dicks. Period. End of story.
Now shut up. And I say that in a gender-blind way so don't go…
I was irate with Joe and that wench Jenn with their treatment of Nina, but after everything we've seen this season, I think I'll say they all suck. Vince, Nina, tattoo face girl, and nasty but hot Asian lady got off easy this season by being voted out early. I wouldn't want to be associated with this season if I were…
