I'm going to go out on a limb and call "too soon" on Kevin Ware jokes. I mean, don't compound the kid's suffering. Let's all give him a break.
When I first saw Boogie Nights, my feeling was that he wasn't copying the Scorsese style so much as (lightly) parodying it—taking a style that Scorsese used for "serious" biographical subject matter and applying it to ridiculous faux-biographical subject matter.
"I have to wear a tie. But you know me, right? I wear one that's a little crazy like this piano keys tie. So when people come in it's like Whoa! What's he doin' in a bank?"
I like the joke! I dislike the spamming. But I also like the spamming because it's a great ad strategy!
