I agree that it's only purpose is entertainment, and that it is highly exploitative (abortions, school-shootings, and the handicapped are all used as plot-fodder), but none of that stuff bothers me. In fact, I appreciate that, unlike so many shows, it has no political or social ax to grind (that I can detect, anyway)…

I don't think that AHS is trying to be anything like Breaking Bad. It set out to be a maudlin, goony horror soap-opera, and it succeeded big time. And I agree with @avclub-0592cd603d4801529227f55223d0d612:disqus : despite all the pastiche, AHS is quite original.
