I agree though on the point that it would be a good thing for other distinguishable methods of recovery to gain more publicity as AA can come across cultish and it does have that religious component and in general can simply be intimidating and many alcoholics/addicts might not take a chance to recover on the basis

Ah. See, before you were talking about abstinence not being the only way, which is much, much different than talking about AA not being the only way. There are, I admit, a LOT of AA people who are very closed-minded about any other method of recovering from alcoholism (less so the case in NA and such, but Ima focus on

I think that's mostly just realistic there. I've NEVER seen an alcoholic or addict relapse and be able to control their using for more than MAYBE a month or two, most pretty much immediately, including unfortunately many who went out after DECADES of sobriety. The only ones I've ever even heard of were from my sponsor
