This discussion seems pretty well wrapped-up, but I have to say: equating analysis of an artifact with a discussion of how the artifact affects you seems to me a mistake.

"Worldwide illness that specifically affects my world, as in me."
That sentence sums up Klosterman's approach and personality (at least his textual personality) brilliantly. Whether he's reviewing Chinese Democracy or whatever, it never stops being about him, not for a single second.
Not sporting type
This comment is not to point out the typo, but rather to express a wish that some drug acquire the street name "Type," and then people could walk up to the dealer and ask "you sporting type?"
Precisely 0
Which does not surprise me: I see movies based on their reviews (though I tend towards metacritic rather than RT). Never been an early adopter.

A taste test, a commentary track…it seems they've finally domesticated the Motherfucker.
Agreed. When I saw that I had to double-check that it wasn't Amelie making fun of the hapless girl.

"As much about the sustainability of marriage…"
Maybe the sustainability of his marriage, but I see few general lessons to glean from husbands who subject their families to crazy publicity stunts. The salient one is "don't be a crazy asshole," but that's nothing we couldn't get from a Robin Williams vehicle.

Loved Lot 49. V completely defeated me, but I was sick when I tried so I might go back. Also, this is kind of ridiculous:
Earthsea rocks. That is all.
Rowling broke some ground?

My Favorite Phrase in the Press Release
"A manuscript of sorts was completed."
I have very little sympathy for slaves…

Accidental Dissection of Internet-Enabled 21st-Century Narcissism
Phipps' snark meter must be stuck on 11 (out of a possible 10). Combine this with "this isn't a movie, it's a Myspace Page" over at Paper Heart, and he'll have half of Hollywood in tears by the end of opening weekend.
Just adding to the pile-on: sheer brilliance from Phipps.
These people just need to learn one acronym;
GOYP, which stands for Get Over Yourself, Plz.
That actually makes me appreciate it slightly less. When I watched the Simpsons as a very young child, I thought many of the gags were brilliant bits of absurdity that came out of nowhere. As I put away childish things, I discovered that most if not all of them were allusions to books and films.
O Fickle Tacitus
The opening line of this post is brilliant:
An Appropriate Quotation
