Thanks, Scrawler. I hope you rewatched it for your own pleasure and not to answer some internet asshole's pointless question.

@avclub-6997a8bd0e1042b70b60c5c879a1780e:disqus To be fair, Frankenstein's monster was never supposed to be "the character." It's really supposed to be all about Victor.
@avclub-446ab634ae06de2b62f2b38bdbe05a58:disqus Yeah, I realize that. It's partially why, for all its problems, I think that's the most interesting of the Superman films. I'd like to see it explored better and not in just a Lois Lane love sort of way. Also having him actually give up his powers is kind of bleh. You…
No worries, Pynchon. Just wanted to note that I also agree All-Star Superman is great.
What? No.
Wait, you're saying Man of Steel is more on par with Superman IV? Oh God.
@avclub-ca157d1a1382fd3eb266129b96bdba74:disqus It was my understanding Returns was indeed a continuation. It took place after 2, retconning 3 & 4 out of existence.
@avclub-ba543c98ebb0f0e5cbc7f9eb475349bc:disqus While I agree that Returns was no good, and I'm at loss as to how this can be worse, it's sort of crazy to…
They should at least just go ahead and release Mask of the Phantasm again. Give that thing a real shot.
I'm almost never clean shaven.
The Ran blu ray is the saddest story of all. Criterion had announced it, put out a new cover, said it was coming, AND THEN Studio Canal took the rights away and put out the really inconsistent video transfer. I believe Criterion was doing a restoration transfer from the film source.
Nah, not really. There's some great ones and some shitty ones. Just like art house films too! Though we'll probably all disagree on which is which but hey, opinions, right?
It's like the opposite of how I felt after your Only God Forgives review.
God's work.
Not related to Superman but tangentially related to why I think he's a great character and particularly why All-Star Superman is so great, is the idea of superhero deconstruction vs reconstruction which Noel Murray gets at here through the lens of Astro City and Planetary.
Which is why I love All-Star Superman so much. It sort of marries both.
It's crazy to me that sane people will rightly poke fun at the dark and gritty shit but then go around and talk about that being what makes Batman so great as compared to Superman.
"What would you prefer yellow spandex?"
Well, yeah, it's getting worse in that way. I mean more in terms of the over arching story, though. Raiders has little beyond "get the ark before the Nazi's do" and the rest is just Indiana being dragged through event after it event.
Plus, this one could also be stupid but still be fun.
@avclub-7a3a5778db9271d6f93523c8050ba200:disqus Yeah, I agree with you (I listed it above the list). It's a goddamn great book.
