@avclub-bc476393a92222ae842903c5ace5f0af:disqus I was just trying to clarify what odduck was saying. Like I said, I don't care.

Weird. I haven't encountered that. Did you mention The Dissolve? Maybe that did it.

@leave_the_silver_city:disqus @avclub-0ae7484a9f3bbd2a21df420050c032ae:disqus THERE ARE DOZENS OF US! DOZENS!

Which one?

@avclub-bc476393a92222ae842903c5ace5f0af:disqus I was just quoting Eakin. I don't really care either way.

Don't ever be ashamed of loving Dune. I know it's a fucking mess but think it's great.

I'm kind of expecting it to suck a little bit but to love it anyways.

Can I just relink my old defenses of The Dark Knight Rises? I don't want to retype all of it.

@avclub-f6f154417c4665861583f9b9c4afafa2:disqus I'd agree with you there. As people have said elsewhere, All-Star Superman is great (and I'd argue an important piece of art). Other ones that are constantly cited as "greatest" that I enjoy:

Which I honestly thought was something they were going to go for in this movie. Superman seems like the one super hero where the tired "but I don't want my powers!" seems like it can hold actual weight: they are a part of what makes him different. I can totally see Clark running from those powers in order to "just" be

Then you should have gone all Sanjuro and given this an F.

Well, right now it's only disagreeing with 66% of others.

Yeah which is the opposite of what a Superman movie needs to be. I had heard rumors about it striking a tone that Superman's appearance starts to inject a sincerity in the "world" of the film, but it doesn't sound like that's the case at all.

Minus the Lynch's Dune part, yeah.

Will they not give you the AV Club Staff watermark?

The flashback structure sort of sounds like what they did in Batman Begins.

This is the rare time I disagree with you, Cookie. I don't think he's a boring character. I just think bad writers write boring stories for him. So I agree with your last point, if not the whole thing.

Possibly, but I also think Snyder is a kinetic director who seems like he has a good (blockbuster) film in him if given the right parameters and someone to temper the shittier aspects around him.

I think the Boy Scout aspect of him is perhaps his most intriguing aspect, but you have to temper it somewhat to make him seem more human (as always, see All-Star Superman).
