@avclub-d7f43e1fb2d4977c86163d9b0cb07814:disqus He's the national advisor that Team Chastain had to pitch the Osama raid to. Had some pretty good dry lines.

@Scrawler2:disqus My theory is that voters didn't go for Affleck or Bigelow because they assumed they would be locks — Bigelow has been scooping up nearly every critic award out there. They might have been a lot more eager about the idiosyncratic directors, the little engines that could, hence Zeitlin's nomination.

He's not long-overlooked, he won in '07 for Little Miss Sunshine.

Nah, Riva deserves it for Best Actress.

I also love that they subtly build up to that scene. When Lincoln tells his first story in the movie to his Cabinet, you can see that everyone else at the table is laughing/smiling indulgently whereas McGill is just sitting there stoically with the most "wtf is this bullshit" look on his face. That makes his later

From a Jezzie reader here — what else would you call it? Abortion sounds right to me. Not only that, I just really enjoyed the very primal nature of that scene — I think the fear of carrying this unknown, grotesque being within you is something a lot of women subconsciously have. I practically had a panic attack

@avclub-ad45e11f2e88b8963920c79cd1d8755e:disqus I thought about it for a minute and do not understand why "veering between naturalism and satire" is inherently a bad quality.

@avclub-6258e285eeb51b21d01ffe9cb9f9c1d1:disqus  I think you are just an AV Club regular who has know idea what the majority of typical women look like.

@Dr_John_Zoidberg:disqus I think you inadvertently hit the nail on the head, which is that all of Hannah's conflicting sides are supposed to encapsulate being in your 20s and not having fully matured yet. How boring it would be if Lena Dunham felt that she had to "pick a side" for Hannah.

@avclub-1898a4d76532f237d9b5c0592dfe71a9:disqus But it doesn't occur to you that everyone so far has interpreted these characters differently? I virtually did not interpret any of your examples the way you did.

ummm. That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that although she wanted to, she avoided breaking up with him because they had been together so long that she couldn't stand the idea of *not* being with him, which is what their *entire* relationship has been about since the show started; hence she begs

I kind of loved that too. I think plenty of us have experienced the feeling of irony and shittiness after we've successfully pushed away someone who wanted us. She needed to vent about these feelings - just like she needed that hilarious throwdown from Elijah to end the pity party. Great moment.

@avclub-7531a93baf5da0105892793cdeaf8cf8:disqus But few things are actually interesting *out* of context. I remember a huge clusterfuck in a GoT thread once, when someone whose viewing experience was limited to the last five minutes of the Season 1 finale asked why a naked girl with her lizard baby was so impressive.
