I think that his books are mostly hits, with a few misses. For example, The Duke of Uranium was a good story that made a more scientifically plausible version of a space opera, but its sequel, A Princess of the Aerie, had one of the characters do a Face Heel Turn (look on TVTropes.org for a definition of the term)…
