I reread The Westing Game a few months ago, and damned if it isn't just as smart, funny, and enchanting as ever. I've heard that Raskin's The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I Mean Noel) is quite good too, but I haven't read it.
As a Southern Californian who had never experienced snow, The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena was a particular favorite of mine.
This might have been mentioned already, but as a kid I loved The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, and still do! That there is some excellent comedy.

Amistad is far from Spielberg's best, but the production values are high and seeing the 1830s recreated is pretty neat, oh, AND Nigel Hawthorne plays Martin Van Buren, which, for me, is very exciting.
