So do you try this line before or after you tell the girl she should actually be buying you a drink?

I seem to recall she had a pretty jaundiced reaction when Sam pulled up at the housewarming party for the Martinis.  I suspect she knew his game from the beginning, George or no George, which either discredits your premise or makes her decline all the more tragic.

Strangely enough that building was where episodes of The Running Man were shot before The Incident and the government shut it down.

It's pretty clear in the film that Sam cats around and isn't really interested in Mary except perhaps as a conquest, Mary's mother notwithstanding.  I seem to recall that Sam's got three women in his office when he calls Mary, and Sam doesn't seem to give a whit that George is in Mary's house and on the phone*, indeed

It's worth pointing out the William Wyler's World War II experience was almost identical to Capra's.  Both were commissioned majors in the Army, both made documentaries during the war, but Capra never really broke out of doing his pre-war style of pictures, where people like Wyler and George Stevens were profoundly

@Mighty_Ponygirl:disqus I wonder if Stewart's attitude about shooting on schedule had anything to do with the fact that he was married to the assistant director/associate producer, who's specific job description is "keeping the shoot on schedule," and spends a lot of time yelling at people.
