Eh, popular fiction for old adults isn't too hot either.
I think it was the shoulder. Hold on, let me check it on Hulu.
Is Nostradamus shippable? I remember when the series was first announced and people mocked the "sexy Nostradamus" angle, but the guy they cast isn't the typical CW hottie, and they haven't played up his looks at all.
I think it's worth it for the long haul. The grasp the writers have on all their characters is shaky, but I love what Kane, Follows, and Coombs are doing with their characters. The visuals are interesting, and the plot *is* smart. Go for it!
I complained about Catherine's fashions last week, so praise is due this week: the red gown and tiara for her imprisonment were lovely, and I liked how they set it off with a raspberry tart in her first scene.
WAIT—there was a boycott? Who? WHY?
I was thinking about Coven as I watched this episode. It's not as ropey as that: there is a clear through-line about Mary working out who she's going to marry/who's going to succeed Henry, which is more than AHS ever managed. Yet Reign also has the problem of having more filler episodes, and using them to introduce…
"You're not smart enough to survive in Court."
I'm of two minds about this episode. On the one hand, I get why the reviewer loved it. It's silly, fun of melodramatic moments, and the pagan woodland roadtrip (also the name of my new band!) keeps everything from getting bogged down in politics.
I guess I meant self-resurrection. Isn't that what she did when the Christians killed her?
D.
I stopped watching a with the hair salon massacre and only came back for the finale, so I want to know if this is explained (and, yes, despite asking this, I know what show I'm watching!): Misty lost in the test of resurrection, which is the one power she has consistently displayed the whole season, right? Or was that…
The prophecy is a tricky thing. On the one hand, it's such a shameless plot device, there to push characters (Catherine and Mary, mostly) into taking dramatic actions that otherwise they wouldn't. I don't mind that; the show needs melodrama.
Cosign on wanting more road trip. This episode BURNED through plot to get to the new status quo, but I think they could have spaced it out a bit to give each development more weight (and to build the Mary/Bash relationship, as you suggest).
For the record, I have watched from the beginning. I see things differently, still. And that's okay.
They need to fit Catherine's clothes better. Her gown for the middle part of the episode was way too tight, and this wasn't the first time. I want her to look as badass as she's acted.
Remember when Bash shoved an innocent dude off a cliff? I feel like that was a huge narrative misstep, since the show has rightly kept to the idea that the good guys (Mary and Francis) only kill in defense, and it's the evil folk (Catherine, mostly) who kill for expediency.
The chainmail sweater with puffy skirt combo! LOVE. I also liked her horseback-riding outfit more when she jumped off the cliff and I could see there were pants. Such a good episode for wacky clothes.
"But what about me?" The writers must hate Kenna as much as everyone else. No one gives that line to a character we're meant to like. I also enjoyed that Catherine readily admitted to Mary she meant to have Kenna poisoned instead of Aylee, and neither seemed to mind about that.
