I haven't watched Hunger Games 2, but the cinematic experience might be better if you don't read the books (I did watch HG1 before reading the trilogy, and didn't really get a whole lot more from the book, although it did give me a greater appreciation for how the they adapted the first-person story to screen). …

I've only watched New Who and I don't think it wipes away Season 1-7 at all, for the reasons people gave above.
