I'm not a fan of things that are weird for weirdness's sake, but Lynch is never "just" weird — he invests the best of his movies with jaw-dropping emotion or psychological twists that are nonsensical but make sense in your gut.

yeah, P&P is a sublime romcom but Emma is a sharper, more biting satire, and I personally love a flawed heroine. Plus, I don't "ship" Elizabeth and Darcy, which probably hampers my appreciation of the novel.

I watched the last half of The Piano Teacher at a friend's place (she was halfway through it on Netflix and after describing the movie to us, we demanded to finish it with her), and it was super-awkward viewing it with friends. Or super-hilarious.

Still re-reading Emma; still awesome. I keep getting flashbacks to Clueless (especially in Mr. Elton's character) and this has heightened my enjoyment.

Friday night, I saw a double feature of Ed Wood (which I had seen and loved) and Mulholland Drive (which I had never seen).

It is pretty cool that a movie as weird and messy as Vertigo — over-stuffed with obsessive kinks and passion — got the #1 ranking.

The Children Are Watching Us is also pretty brilliant; De Sica is sort of a genius at capturing children and their suffering onscreen.
I was sad that Singin' in the Rain dropped off the list — it was #10 in 2002.

Shoeshine > Bicycle Thieves, honestly.
I'm fucking satisfied; Vertigo is my favorite movie of all time, and it's very nice to see it beating out Citizen Kane finally.

This article is why I've never really liked this movie. It's such a bullshit premise, and the movie is so smug in its virtue.
