Groundhog Day
This past Groundhog Day I watched "Groundhog Day" and drank vodka and 7-up. I believe I'll try to make this a ritual as I like the hell out of that movie and Bill Murray always seems to go well with some concoction that includes hard liquor.

Zack's Christmas movie list
Zack, don't forget to add "Bad Santa" to your Christmas movie list. I'd recommend watching it in the first half of the month. Not too close to Christmas day, which you probably want to save for more sentimental things, but sometime during the initial onslaught of Christmaseyness that can

I agree with you on that, Penguin. There are so many good things about "Robocop 2" and yet somehow it doesn't come together the way the first movie did. It's like they used the same words but they couldn't quite get the music right. Still, I keep thinking that if I watch it one more time something will click and

I'm sure they'd rather avoid being assaulted by some roving gang of super-hoodlums. Didn't you see "Robocop"?

Tasha - I guess this is as good a place to ask as any, since you mention regular features being put on hold, but have your "Book vs. Film" column and Keith's "Box of Paperbacks" column both disappeared forever? Because I liked both of those and I would be sad if they went away.

Adaptations
I know this is about books and not movies, but just out of curiosity have there been any remotely faithful adaptations of Lovecraft? Or more importantly any adaptations that have been good? I've seen "Re-animator" which I think is great, but I don't know how close it is to the story.

Damnably Catchy
Coincidentally, Uncle Cecil over at your fellow Chicago-based website (The Straight Dope) just recently did a column about why songs get stuck in your head.

Maybe she's no longer in the running toward becoming America's Next Top Model.

What Nathan wrote was funny and Leonard's riffing on it made it even funnier! I now demand that Nathan Rabin and Leonard Pierce join forces as a comedy duo. Come on. A Jew and an Arab sharing the stage together!

Breakfast In America
Jason - I'm glad to see some love for "Breakfast In America". Way back when I first picked it up I was just cherry picking the songs I knew from the radio, but I've finally gotten around to listening to the album as a whole, which is better than a sum of it's parts. Now I'm of a mind that it's

I know you've written some movie reviews before, Josh, but I feel like I should say how much I liked this review. I wasn't sure about seeing this when I saw the trailers, but now based solely on what you've written here I'm actually excited about seeing it.

Kiss My Ass
Amidst the flood of crappy tribute albums that came out in the early 90s "Kiss My Ass" has several Kiss covers that are actually really solid and probably much better than the originals. Dinosaur Jr.'s version of "Goin' Blind", Anthrax's version of "She" and The Mighty Mighty Bosstone's kick-ass version

You know if everyone just waits until the day after Halloween they can get 10 lbs. of candy for just a few bucks anyway. The same thing works on the day after Easter.

Living Color
Vernon Reid has one of the best guitar solos ever in "Cult of Personality". That guy can freakin' shred.

Note to self : At next Birthday party, do not serve shishkabobs. I mean… nobody ever got stabbed to death with a hamburger.

I've been dreaming about cutting together my own horror anthology from bits of different existing anthologies. "Creepshow 1 & 2", the final segment from the early 70s British version of "Tales From the Crypt", the WWII bomber segment from "Heavy Metal", the last two segments from "Twilight Zone : The Movie", the

Yeah, there's a shit load of crows here in West L.A., Todd. Maybe you live in some kind of crow-free zone.

For what it's worth, John Lennon openly admitted that "Sargent Pepper" was a direct reaction to "Pet Sounds".

guests
Guest stars = desperation. Elijah Wood, Scarlett Johanssen, Madonna… there may have been more, but I couldn't sit through the whole show.

The game show spoof should be a slam dunk for any sketch comedy show and yet they managed to F it up. It seems like they were just in a hurry to get it over with.
