Good call on "Ravenous". The movie wasn't as good as it could have been, but the score was fantastic. It's probably the only instance where the music for a movie creeped me out more than the movie itself.

What this means is…
"Transformers 2" will be nominated for Best Picture next year.

Penguin - I don't think "Frailty" undermined it's own themes at the end, it just revealed that they were more complex than they seemed at first. Instead of just being about the dangers of blind faith it became about the reasons for the distance between God and man. If God really did interact directly with men and if

English or Japanese
Tasha - Did you watch this with subtitles or with English dubbing? I made the mistake of watching "Ghost in the Shell" with English dubbing and it wasn't good (the movie was, the voice acting wasn't). Some anime has decent dubbing (the Disney releases of Miyazaki's stuff, Satoshi Kon's stuff,

Play to your strengths
First of all, she needs to wipe that smug look off of her face. Second, I'm a big fan of "Near Dark" and much of "Strange Days" so I wish she would continue making that kind of pulpy genre fare because it seems to be what she's best at. And thirdly, her being inclined toward projects that are

Wait a minute. Noel thinks Lisa Leslie and Brandi Chastain are assholes? What did they ever do?

That scene and the fact that Jim Jarmusch managed to make Cate Blanchette even hotter than she normally is are the only things worth a shit in that movie.

I liked "1408", too. I think you have to take it as surrealist and existentialist more than just straight dramatic narrative (kind of like "No Exit"), but it was nice to see a mainstream horror movie that was free to be trippy and not compelled to make complete narrative sense.

This movie is really gonna piss off that chick that works at the box office.

Wait a minute, wait a minute…
Woody Allen made a movie about an old guy hooking up with a much younger girl?

I'll bite. What's the argument? Is it whether the book is better than the movie? Because the book is good (it's actually the only Stephen King I've read), but the movie is a goddamned masterpiece. So, in conclusion, the movie's better.

Everything Is Food!
Nice to see some love for "Popeye", Leonard. I don't know why people hate on it. Yeah, it was Robert Altman's version of a big budget studio movie, but it was still quintessentially Altman. Not only that but it managed the considerable feat of making a Robin Williams starring vehicle where not

The best description of cookies I've ever read comes from the estimable Steve of TheSneeze.com (featuring "Steve Don't Eat It). To quote :

Yeah, that was probably a poor choice of words. I just meant that it wasn't as genre defining or influential as the stuff Keith mentioned above, but that doesn't make it disposable. For what it's worth, I do really like some of Hall & Oates' pop songs and in fact I think "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" is one of

Hall and Oates
If I can be completely white for a second… I like Hall and Oates, but I'm wondering if you think they should be taken seriously as any sort of representation of the Philly Sound? Or are they just turning that style into disposable pop music? To go along with that, are any of their old albums worth

I no longer hope for it to be something dirty.

What does m/ mean? Is it something dirty? I hope it's something dirty.

Oh…
and if anything was a Grand Unifying Event it was that naked chick playing frisbee.

Ritchie Havens
Maybe I need to watch it again, but from what I remember, Ritchie Havens gave a pretty kick ass performance. I mean he did pretty much open a really huge concert by sitting on a stool and playing acoustic guitar. That can't be easy.

Tatoo?
Nathan, if you didn't like Chris Farley then you probably shouldn't have gotten that tatoo of him on your leg. I mean, what's that gonna look like when the hair grows back in?
