They made an entire movie based on the premise of Awful Movies with Awesome Bands In Them. It was called Blues Brothers 2000.

Also, why are you "surprised by all the love here" for a movie generally considered one of the greatest of all time?

Because the acting, directing, cinematography, screenplay, soundtrack, plot and themes are all terrific? What more, exactly, do you need for a movie to "do it for you"? Nudity? I don't recall there being any nudity.

I feel a special connection with Toys because when my parents finally shelled out for HBO when I was 12, it was on every single day. And this was, of course, in the days before HBO2, HBO Spanish, HBO 8 The Ocho, etc. I probably saw at least part of it on 34 non-consecutive occassions.

The other interesting thing about sports in '92 is that you had a unique set of burgeoning dynasties dominating all 6 major sports: the Bulls, the Cowboys, the Blue Jays, the Penguins, Duke and Florida State.

The 1992 Olympics were a pretty big cultural touchstone for me as well. Especially the Dream Team, but also Carl Lewis, the "Unified" Team, the US volleyball team shaving their heads in protest, the South African sprinters, the tie-dyed Lithuanian basketball team, Summer Sanders, Gail Devers, Oscar de la Hoya, etc.

NHL on the Fly is great, but I wish they would do away with the scrolling scores at the bottom of the screen so I could enjoy the built-in suspense of the highlights.

The worst was tuning in just in time to hear "and that was the CNN sports play of the day"

As you probably suspected, Berman didn't come up with that one, Green-Ellis' Patriots teammates did.

Wayne Knight and a black guy are in that photo? I haven't been able to avert my eyes from the blonde with the big cans long enough to notice.
