Disney did its live-action adaption around the time it did its live action 101 Dalmatians. In both cases, it took source material in which the animals spoke and removed all of their dialog for the films. I was totally confounded by this choice. Why have the animals remain silent? Disney is ALL ABOUT talking animals.

No, all the comic book characters are there. I actually thought the Tom Sawyer inclusion was somewhat clever considering his use as a detective in Twain's later writing.
