Similar thing here. I enjoy reading these reports but on the otherhand I don't like reading "So Community's fucked, eh?" every week. Maybe if Todd just found a way to break it to us gently, like holding our hand and whispering the figures softly into our ear.

So did anyone watch Pearl Jam twenty? I went along last night with a couple of friends who were really into the band back when people were into the band. I didn't know much about them past the obvious songs and history but I thought it was a great documentary. Vedder came across as a pretty decent guy, so much so that

Pretty much the same here. I put off watching Glee for ages because it sounded so horrible and obnoxious. I caught up in the season 1 hiatus and loved the first 13. Then the back half started and the downslide into trying to maintain its success and profitablity over the genuine wit and originality of

It may be as on-the-nose as some of his other choices but the use of Richard Cheese's version of Down With the Sickness in DotD makes for a great montage.

RTD's love for America has been evident for ages. Look at the horrible references in Doctor Who - from the cringeworthy American newsreader he kept using (one of the worse cases of ignoring the 'show don't tell' rule' is using newsreaders to tell the audience exactly how bad the threat is and how tense everything is.

Same here. I stopped after episode 6 (I think - the one that ended with the doctor being burned alive) because there's only so much time in the day. Realising there was a new episode of Torchwood to watch felt like a chore rather than a treat. So I've started watching Fringe instead which is much more rewarding.

The thing is that this episode would have been filmed with them knowing it was going to run later - Amy wasn't wearing her flesh avatar costume of the chequered shirt - so they had plenty of time to add in a line or two about Melody (or even a knowing look between Amy and Rory) or, if that flesh line was forshadowing,

I love Mr. Blue Sky and I hated its use there. It just seemed really obnoxious and pointlessly quirky (instead of quirkfully pointless which is what I assume they were going for). And the bit where the song goes slow and he gets sad? Oh, fuck off RTD.

I agree about Art of Discourse - it's not one of the highlights of season 1 but it's a great, fun episode. I was good to see jeff and Britta team up against something without sexual tension being a plot device.

Christopher.

I agree with both points. The 300 coffee-ed up Fry rescue was brilliantly done. And "gotta go, Fight Club!" is a brilliant line.

It did. And his motivation and actions were retarded. Almost as retarded as the plot device of 'let's blame the two agents who figured out which building the bomb was actually in and did everything right because who'd question that there was something off about that?'

I'd forgotten about them - can't wait. Perfect timing too, I've been watching the series again with my girlfriend (first time for her) and we've just finished season 4. It'll be nice to read the reviews live rather than retrospectively.

Double post. Nothing to see here.

Party Down catering a Greendale open day. Louie CK, Michael Bluth and Walter White turn up as dads looking to send thier kids there. Bunk and McNulty have a police recruitment stall. AV Club explodes.

You're absolutely right. I hang my shamed head in a Good Grief style.

Personally I loved the ending - it was a grand, romantic moment but still done in an authentic, Office manner, complete with Dawn in her huge coat, it being in the middle of a crappy Christmas party and the moment being interrupted by Gareth's commenting. And I feel it's fully earned and justified.

I completely agree. I think Todd summed it up nicely with "Even the most miserable life in existence has a moment or two of joy mixed in there, and the frequent cultural fetishization of misery as somehow more “authentic” than joy is just as false as, say, one of those old musicals where everybody’s so happy they’re

"I've been trying to deal with the situation delicately because I was mildly embarrassed that we were equivalents and now I'm your boss but that's the deal, live with it"

Especially as it's a very David Brent "Noooooooo." that we've heard him use in the office.
