I think Exile is just a great overall album without any specifically stand-out songs in comparison to the rest.  It's much better as a whole rather than trying to determine the best single song.

Yes, because your personal opinion on one band means that no one else can enjoy their music at all.  Maybe try adding some analysis into your stance instead of just shitting on other people's opinions without anything to back it up.

Another band that gets little love on the AVClub is Pearl Jam, but they have a few songs that fit this category quite well too.

Steve Earle is a good choice.  Almost no one can make a song sound more dire.

I definitely expected to see a Pink Floyd song on the list.  There are several worthy ones to choose from.  Although, most AVClub writers refuse to give the Floyd they respect they deserve.

You need new friends.  Pink Floyd should be discussed on a regular basis.
