I've said this before about irony I think, and I essentially said the same thing below: we don't need to ruin a useful word with a specific meaning.

Actually, this is akin to species extinction, globalization, and human interference. Yes, species have died out in the past before, many many times. But globalization has accelerated this to dangerous levels, and the effects are hard to estimate.
