That's all related, and i think what drake is getting at. If he or Kendrick dropped same love or thrift shop, it wouldn't have been nearly as widely accepted as the version dropped by a non threatening white guy. It's also easier for the voters to view for the non threatening white guy.

To be perfectly clear i don't think it was "oh hey, a white guy, let's give it to him!" Same love had a lot to do with it, with the Academy wanting to seem progressive, but Macklemore's palatability to the general public helped a lot. His appearance made him easier for the voters to side with.

See Kendricks verse in this past bet cypher. Some veiled shots at young Aubrey.

His issue with race is that as soon as a popular yet inferior white option is available, that wins every damn rap grammy possible. There was nothing about black people or people from the streets having the rights to hop hop anywhere in that statement.

My first thought was, " I don't like Drake, but he's not wrong". Him being butt hurt about just Kendrick getting a text is kinda weak, but does provide further evidence of his growing dislike of Kendrick. Could make for an entertaining rivalry.

More interesting, sure. But in no universe was it BETTER. And I liked Yeezus quite a bit.

Macklemore over Good Kid, MAAD City is the real tragedy in all of this.

I got into Tennessee rapper Starlito arlier this year after listening to his "Cold Turkey" album, then was very impressed with his "Step Brothers 2" mixtape with Don Trip. That made me check out their first Step Brothers collaboration and was blown away. Great production, punchlines for days, and some amazing

I haven't had the chance to listen to this in full yet, but "New Leaders" with the Underachievers is fuckin crazy. The beat by statik selektah is nutso, and UA went in on their verses. Check their tape Indigoism, one of the better releases this year.

True, but 10 years ago i hadn't learned that yet. lol.

Well yeah, that part i totally get. Still would have been cool, but understandable. I'm more mad at being promised Premier and Dr. Dre, and not getting either.

Not to mention the original concept was 12 producers for 12 tracks. As good as the black album is, i've always felt a little cheated, because the original plan promised to be so amazing. I'm still mad that Premier hasn't worked with Jay since Vol. 3, but was set to be on that original incarnation of the black album.

@jaunty_pallor:disqus off the top of my head, i would add these too Pierce's excellent list. I would add to that: Apollo Brown - Skilled Trade, Oddisee - The Beauty in All, Black Milk - Synth or Soul,

I liked it more than most around here. Very solid album, and yeah some crazy ass production. Ghetto Symphany feat. Gunplay and A$AP Ferg is still one of the most bangin tracks i've heard all year.

You have excellent taste. Very much liked everything you mentioned,
especially The Proposal. That's probably the one i feel most guilty
about leaving off, and might even take off the Mac Miller joint to put
it on there. Innanetape had some really great high points, and She Got
Game was great too. 2013 didn't have as

In order:
I have not listened to the Dessa record, and with feedback like yours its not looking likely that i will.

The first half of "Old" would've made my list, the second half didn't do much for me so it fell just outside my list. Still a good album though. Everything else you listed i haven't got around too yet, so I'll make sure to check those out now.

Unbelievably, #3 is typed 100% accurate. It took me 3 tries, that's why i'm sure.

Yeah, weak was the wrong word. I liked "Royalty" but i liked it for everything BUT Gambino's rapping. The production was there, but he was just routinely outshined by the ringers he brought in. Although in some cases he didn't have a prayer, like on Unnecessary. There aren't a whole lot of rappers working today who
