mixtape about nothing is great, and so is 100 miles and running. Sounds NOTHING like The Gifted.

@avclub-e1bd3c7b2884187cdb13faabfa282fcb:disqus Its almost like they're trying to faze out covering rap alltogether, except for stupid shit that'll hit newswire. Gibbs, Mac Miller, Bronson, J Cole, El-P and Killer Mike have all had their work reviewed previously, but have had their new releases completely ignored. I

That kinda goes hand in hand with the dumbing down, doesn't it? If he wasn't actively trying to change his style and vibe to better suit the masses, wouldn't he still be working with best kept secret? At least a little bit?

Forgot to add, Flowers for my Father by Sadistik is a few months old now, but REALLY good. Guy sounds like a mix of Brother Ali and Slug to me, and production credits include Blue Sky Black Death and Kno of the Cunninlynguists.

Sweet Jesus the last month or so has been great for hip-hop, not that you'd be able to notice from the reviews here. Decent chance half of my top 10 list at the year's end might come from May and June alone. The shit i've been listening to.

Absolutely. As a former fan of Wale's, this review echoed my thoughts completely. There hasn't been a more egregious and obvious "sell out" than Wale's in recent memory. I could only make it through this album 3 tracks at a time it made me so angry.

I'm very very impressed on the whole, but HOLY CHRIST THE BEAT ON "BOUND 2" IS INCREDIBLE. That sample flip is just absolutely fuckin beautiful.

I always get people to freak out when I say this, but deep in my heart I know it to be true:
All-time, Tim Duncan > Kobe Bryant.

Yeah, thats one thing i noticed this time around. When 808's is on, its amazing, and actually much better all the way through than i remembered. However, the autotune still grates on me enough to where i get annoyed listening to certain stretches. Still, Welcome to Heartbreak is phenomenal, and is definitely in my top

I will admit that ive never really listened to a ton of French, but i do remember seeing him featured all the time on stuff with Max B and the like a few years ago, and i definitely found him fairly enjoyable. When he had this resurgence in the last year or two, i remember on a few tracks going "wait, i thought French

I don't know that the reviewer is unfamiliar with old French, maybe he just felt it wasn't worthy of mentioning in the review considering that (apparently: I haven't had a chance to listen to the album yet but i plan on it) that French was nowhere to be found, and really hasn't been for the last year or two.

Same here, back to back weeks with new rap reviews for the first time in months didn't leave me with much opportunity to find new shit.

statik selektah mac miller goodie mob fabolous and quasimoto all drop on the 18th. Prodigy and alchemist drop on the 11th.

I really don't like Doom, but am all aboard the Clams bandwagon, and i very much enjoyed this. Maybe theres a chance that Doom does something other than Madvillainy that i like after all.

@avclub-b8ddd4e23c3d98fe4c4c61177afffac2:disqus Ah, yes. Thank you sir. Lofton added to the list.

What's the "Action Bronson Random Baseball Reference" counter up to now? I remember Jason Giambi and Ken Caminiti from "Pouches of Tuna" off of Blue Chips, i feel like theres more that i'm missing.

@avclub-fe858281188f10005605ea7b1dd0bf7f:disqus First off, prepare for the imminent release of my diss track towards you for jacking my usual move on these rap reviews. I don't want to give any spoilers, but it will be….. vicious.

Yeah, im excited to give the brown tape a listen. With "Trophies" and "Dice Game" last year, and now this, Apollo is on some kinda roll.

I thought his first 3 albums were all great, and still enjoyed his next two after that. His album he released last year was an unmitigated disaster, and effectively put the kibosh on the thought that he might have had anything left in the tank.
