Yeah i'm not terribly fond of that Mary J track either. And thinks for the link about C&C, didn't know it was a sample issue, although that definitely makes the most sense. Its such a good song and would make a perfect intro.

Agreed, Cartoon & Cereal might be my favorite song all year, and it can't even crack the record. The Bonus and Unreleased tracks would've been a damn good album on their own.

I disagree. Hearing Arron Afflalo get brought up was a bit random, but i think it was interesting song, explaining Kendrick's mindset and thoughts growing up around and witnessing Arron and The Game's success.

This is a phenomenal album. This album being subtitled "A Short Film By Kendrick Lamar" is brilliant because this absolutely feels like an audio movie. The attention detail is incredible and it is a really gripping narrative. The first 2 verses of Sing About Me where Kendrick Lamar raps as Dave then as Keisha's sister…

Not a book specifically about Sonny Vaccaro, although he makes an appearance, "Play Their Hearts Out" by George Dohrmann follows a nationally elite AAU basketball team and covers ALL the exploiting of the youngsters that Vaccaro pioneered. A truly amazing book that i suggest any one with an interest in hoops read.

As someone who is unfamiliar with his work, is this new album a decent enough place to start, or do i need to dig up something from his early catalog first?

Wow, can't believe i forgot to mention the Murs & Fashawn collabo. That one is crazy nice, too. For two guys who were fairly unfamiliar with each other before hand, they have an undeniable chemistry. I love the back and forth verses they had on there, reminding me of vintage Jadakiss & Styles P.

A couple Rickey gems:
"If they're going to pay me like (Mike) Gallego, i'll play like Gallego!"

How a Rickey henderson 30 for 30 hasn't been greenlit yet is amazing to me. Would easily be the funniest movie of the year.
