Rory died at 82, Amy at 87. as she lived for five more years than him (they are the same age) and was also dead in 2012, the latest Rory could have been alive was 2007. so 1955 at the latest - seems the year of choice for the discerning time traveller.

any number of reasons. how about they get a chance to raise their daughter and can't take her back with them to do so in the present day as she would cross her own time stream/is a fixed point/timey-wimey reasons?

and if they were content and didn't need to be rescued a la Sally Sparrow's friend?

i didn't say he didn't have charisma, just that he didn't have the charisma of Tennant (really, the comprehension skills around here can be diabolical).
