Didn't you guys see the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels? The third one started out with a bunch of guys getting hanged!

This is being absolutely trashed in pretty much every other review out there, but this one makes it sound kind of awesome. I don't know who to trust anymore. I might risk checking it out anyway since I'm a Gore Verbinski fan (Pirates sequels aside, I loathe Dead Man's Chest), but I'm not sure I want to risk seeing…
I will admit that the title was the reason I clicked on the article, so I guess they're doing their job.
Seriously, no song could possibly work better for the ending of that movie better than "Save Me". One of my favorite movie endings.
Hm, kind of. Sounds like more of a DaVinci code style take on the subject than a straight up adaptation though. I'm surprised I never heard of it, actually, sounds like something I would watch to laugh at.
No, just saying that there are definitely zero scenes in Superman Returns that flash back to his origins.
The title is kind of odd… last time I checked The Bible doesn't end after Jesus' s resurrection. I'm going to wait for the ten part series based on Revelations.
I'm still waiting for word on that. I'd least like it if they published the rest of his stuff that was published in magazines but never in print. I know it's available online but I hate reading stuff that way.
Eh, I'm excited about it: I always enjoy Skins as a guilty pleasure even at it's worst. It'll be interesting to see some of the loose ends from earlier seasons resolved, even if it risks sacrificing some of the series' ambiguity (I always liked how unapologetic they were about leaving story threads hanging and never…
You do realize that The Shield is actually a Training Day knockoff, right @avclub-29501df08e5d9ae59e432e4f188d3735:disqus ?
It is kind of strange… it seems that fans of the movie really dig the tone and style of the movie but find the story choices and some of the casting decisions really difficult to defend.
You might have put your finger on why I find Man of Steel more enraging than almost any other superhero movie: the trailers are still really good and it's easy to imagine a really good Superman movie with a similar cast and story, yet the movie completely trashes it's potential at every turn. Stuff like Green Lantern…
I've seen Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, and Man of Steel. While I agree with you generally that "he really only manages to deliver technically impressive films that falter when it comes to anything like telling a story", I would say that the exception is Watchmen. It's severely flawed and barely a good…
The only other case of muddy visuals I can recall in a Snyder film are the later action sequences in Sucker Punch. His other movies are pretty crisp and clear visually, and the editing for Watchmen was actually quite good and not choppy at all.
Man of Steel is by far Snyder's worst film: all his others had some interesting ideas and strong acting/directing moments. For all his faults his previous movies were nice to look at. Man of Steel, on the other hand, falls flat in every conceivable way and is possibly the ugliest film of the year.
I'm pretty sure using the word "original" in reference to Abrams-verse Trek movies should be illegal. Those are some of the most unoriginal movies I've ever seen: Into Darkness in particular uses this generic, increasingly common "evil terrorist seeks revenge" storyline that seemingly half the blockbusters today are…
Seeing as Bryan Singer is currently filming his fourth superhero movie, I don't think he dislikes superhero comics as much as you're apparently assuming he does.
I thought she was horrible, but Adams has never done tough well (I was baffled by her Oscar nomination for "The Fighter") and she is given the absolute worst dialogue in the movie, which is saying something. Adams is still one of my favorite modern actresses though, but I certainly wouldn't think much of her if this…
Except Donner had nothing to do with Supermans 3 and 4?
I'm quite sure that she's choosing to leave rather than getting fired though, she has another show coming up on MTV and I think another pilot that could get picked up, so she's still on good terms with the network. I'm pretty worried about what will happen in season 4 though, the show could easily become a bland soapy…
