The comment about the movie going downhill when they meet is baffling to me. The best part of the movie by far was everything between Gatsby and Daisy's first meeting, and Daisy hitting Myrtle with the car. Pretty much all of that material was perfect… that scene with Gatsby coming in from the rain was the best one in

Just saw this last night. I am absolutely baffled by the reception this movie is getting. It's certainly far from perfect, but Gatsby is a pretty unadaptable book and this is almost certainly the best adaptation we're likely to get of it. But first the problems: 1) Tobey Maguire's Nick just doesn't work, as written or

So I just got the Cloud Atlas BluRay from Amazon, which is sadly extremely barebones. It only has like six little feauturettes that look like they were put together for foreign tv or something. No commentary, deleted scenes, or even trailers (the first trailer for the film is probably my favorite trailer ever). This

I like a lot of season fives as well actually: Buffy, Angel, Six Feet Under, and I like the fifth season of X-files much more than most people. I liked the fifth season of Mad Men a lot as well but wouldn't say it was my favorite. On the other hand the season five of Breaking Bad is easily my least favorite season of

@avclub-cfe912f5cb3aa572bd1c9ae2a9b82207:disqus Wow, that list is insanely lazy. Leaving off Sam Elliott is definitely unforgiveable. And where's Harvey Keitel's in Holy Smoke? Or Pulp Fiction I guess, but I prefer his look in Holy Smoke.

Thanks again! You guys are awesome. This is the only website I know of where I can trust that everyone's recommendations are going to be great.

Are there any good gay film blogs out there that you know of? I'd love something like the AVC that recommended gay films and pop culture. Though admittedly this site is the reason I know what Weekend is.

@avclub-997c221538094d134659141cf61d51e3:disqus Thanks a lot!!! I'll take more recommendations if you've got them. Any major films I should start with in particular aside from Broken Sky?

Klaus is really Spike. And Damon is also Spike… though I guess you could say he's more like Lestat really.

Klaus's blood is important because it's hybrid blood though, not Original blood, correct? I could be wrong admittedly: I love this show but honestly do not care about it's mythology at all and don't bother keeping up with it.

I didn't have a problem with the magic stuff at all, but I do think I went into Game of Thrones expecting something different from what I was getting. When I started it out I thought all these different forces and opposing sides would start interacting, and backstabbing each other pretty quickly, and that the overall

Oh, don't be sorry! I shouldn't have presumed you'd be an expert on the subject. And that is indeed a ridiculous name for a movie… I'm not sure I want to know what that title is referring to.

Didn't Todd also say season 5 of Lost was the best? He's just a sucker for season 5's apparently…

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! Sorry to badger you. I have already seen (and loved) Weekend. I guess I'll have to do some actual research darn it…

But that would completely alter the themes and the entire point of the movie, to my mind: that people essentially stay the same, and any attempt at real change tends to be an illusion at best. They choose to view themselves a different way and remember their past a certain way rather than actually change themselves

Ah ok, thanks. Any recommendations for gay films/directors at all though? I seriously know virtually nothing about that scene.

Hey Craig, out of curiosity, are there any recent foreign gay movies I should be checking out that you know of? I'm really not well versed in that genre and I feel like I should know more about it.

@Scrawler2:disqus Yeah I'm actually pretty intrigued by that one. The porniness of the movie may have slightly increased my interest though.

I agree. This show's strong suit is throwing twists at the viewer till they can't see straight, not building a coherent mythology. Think of any Whedon show: the mythology makes absolutely no sense, but it doesn't actually matter.

@Scrawler2:disqus The show has a similar dreamy, sinister, cinematic tone to Twin Peaks, and it also has a similar current of quirky dark humor running under the surface, where you're often not sure to laugh or not (though it's much more subtle in it's humor than Peaks). Obviously the characters and story are
