Have you looked at the top ten shows in the ratings lately? It's all cheap sitcoms, competition shows, and procedurals… not exactly high quality programming that would be hurt by increased episode orders.

Were you actually paying attention to the article? Todd isn't talking about what would make better shows, but is trying to think of what would be more profitable for the networks. You can disagree with him, but it does seem that doubling the number of shows on the network with smaller episode orders would be more

I'm not sure why but I'm always weirdly excited for Awkward, even though I had a lot of problems with last season. Something about the show really clicks for me: I think there's only a small handful of shows I'm anticipating as much at this point. I do think the show is wildly underrated: Jenna is a surprisingly

Actually TV By the Numbers now has Hannibal as certain to be renewed after the ratings for the second episode were unexpectedly slightly up from the premiere, making it one of the better rated dramas on the network. Very good news for a show that NBC seemed like it wanted to burn off over the summer.

The Vampire Diaries! And Hannibal. I hear The Good Wife is also supposed to be good… the only show you list that I've seen though is New Girl, which I gave up on about halfway through the first season. I'm much more into dramas than comedies though, and I plan to catch up on Parenthood.

This story is actually slightly terrifying to me…

God I hate Mia Kirshner. I was so, so happy when she was finally killed off on The Vampire Diaries. Why do people keep casting her in things?

Seeing as Bear Mcreary did the score for both this and Battlestar, he probably just figured he'd pick up where he left off.

Sticking in a random exposition speech while two hookers get it on in the background really does not count as using sex to move your plot forward.

The violence is tied to the story and moving things forward most of the time though, while the sex and nudity always drags the story to a halt.

It's a pretty silly and cowardly choice in my opinion: part of what makes Thick of It so good is how specific the targets of it's satire are… in contrast Veep is not very biting or incisive of it's targets and it tends to make really generic observations about politics. At this point it's more of a goofy delivery

So a running gag only works if it is repeated every episode in exactly the same fashion without any kind of alteration? I think you need to go back to comedy school sir…

If it's anything like the book it won't be… that thing was a total piece of garbage that completely copied the first book's format, but adding all this crazy crap to jazz it up with snooze inducing results. The psychology of that kind of situation is what's interesting, not the dumb obstacles they throw in (which

I never really understood why they bother with two separate reviews, since they usually say pretty much the same things and don't have different stances on the show at all really. Just post Todd's review twice with two different comment sections, and cut out the spoilers section on the newbies post.

And the source material is completely unimpeachable? That kind of thing also makes more sense when you have 1000 pages to stretch out rather than 20 hours.

It definitely seemed like an excuse to throw in random nudity, and really felt  like the opening of a porn movie or something (even moreso than usual on this show). This kind of thing would seem gratuitous anywhere but it gets kind of annoying on a show where you have a shitload of new characters you can barely keep

That was so fucking annoying. I tried to find a version without that for a while afterwards and there was nothing up. Definitely killed the impact of that scene.

He's still a new character, and both of the rescues were in this episode. So it definitely counts.

I see why some people love it, and it's probably the best season finale of the show, but I thought the Last Centurion thing was absurdly over the top, and the whole "universe rebooting" thing and Amy's parents being brought back reeeeeeeally bothers me… just none of it really makes any fucking sense, even by Who

Wow, our lists are very similar. I thought I was the only one who thought Christmas Carol and Girl Who Waited were top ten material. The only real outlier for me is Midnight, which I enjoyed but never quite got what's so "great" about it. Definitely Davies best episode aside from Turn Left, The Waters of Mars, and the
