Isn't it explicit in the book that Jack beat him when he was drunk, which is what led him to give up drinking? I believe it's very heavily implied in the film as well. I have a hard time seeing the abuse as being sexual though.

Ugh, I enjoy Of Monsters well enough but they are getting seriously overplayed really quickly. I always thought they were the Coldplay to Arcade Fire's Radiohead, and it looks like I was more right than I knew. Their songs are catchy but they all sound exactly the same too, which is to say like a rearrangement of "No…
Norma is definitely the villain of the show, whereas Norman is portrayed much more sympathetically than he is in Psycho actually. The show is absolutely awful though, just the worst kind of lowest common denominator television, and the fact that it wants to be prestige drama-y just makes it worse. It also featured the…
Yeah I kind of think it was originally arranged as a duet, which gives it a very Wicked-esque sound. It's definitely a little awkward as a solo… I really have no idea why they didn't end up going with the Marilyn/Norma Jean thing at the end of last season: at least that would give the musical a bit more of a concept…
Is she seriously that old? It makes sense since she's been around for a while now but she really doesn't look it. I saw her in A Little Night Music a few years ago and her voice sounded fantastic: I didn't see her in her prime but I can't imagine she's diminished that much.
I know it's uncool to actually comment on the index, but Bates Motel really needs to be all the way on the "Intolerable" end, and the blurb needs to be more like "Sure Freddy Highmore's impersonation of Anthony Perkins is uncanny, but the show's overwrought dialogue and gratuitous violence means 'The Following' may…
It was amazing how he was able to make season 2 much more plot oriented and built around achieving different goals, without sacrificing the poetic structure of the episodes or the character detail and varying perspectives of the first season: really we got even more of that stuff. It just goes to show what you can…
Seriously, if ever there was a time it would be nice to get a notification… I think the comments for this one are lower because these things are really long so I guess a lot of people didn't finish the last one. I really love them though, and I was super excited Todd was able to do one for this show, which is probably…
I'm not sure I need to see the entire play acted out, but some more examples would be nice. We haven't seen many concrete examples of Henry's hammy, theatrical acting so the conflict between him and Geoffrey seems to boil down to one scene. Similarly we don't get much sense of how the other actor's performances are or…
I'm actually really excited about this: the Wachowski's showed they could collaborate with brilliant results with Cloud Atlas, and JMS has always needed a show with some money behind it and collaboraters who knew more about production values and getting decent performances out of the performers. Of course it could end…
It's a ridiculously mixed bag. V For Vendetta is pretty solid, Speed Racer is abysmal, and Cloud Atlas is a masterpiece. They really have one of the weirdest and most random filmographies I've seen, especially considering how much control they've had over their productions.
Yeah you've definitely nailed the issue with the subplot there. If we got say, thirteen episodes a season, this kind of thing would be necessary and would fit in better, but with only six it just feels like it's taking up time that would be better spent on the characters we actually know and care about, or on showing…
I keep wanting this show to become as good as Todd describes (and I thought it would be after this season's premiere), but this season keeps throwing in a lot of disappointing and strangely unpleasant subplots that are dragging it down for me. The Macbeth storyline is fantastic (maybe better than the Hamlet storyline)…
I got this vibe as well, I actually looked up the episode list to see if they were aired out of production order but it didn't appear that they were. The choppiness of the character development at this point in the season is absolutely bizarre: we see the characters make major emotional breakthroughs pretty much every…

Indeed it did. There was definitely a snarky Newswire about it a while ago. It's kind of crazy that Patterson would risk his reputation as a writer of solidly bland bestsellers by writing something so blatantly ridiculous, but I guess he's pretty untouchable at this point.
Indeed it is. It's basically a seven hour movie though so it might be better to just wait for the DVD (not that I'm doing that). I think you just have to wait a couple days for someone to put the episodes up, that's how it worked with the second episode.
You seem pretty clueless about a lot of pop culture, considering how much time you spend here… of course I am constantly confused over whether certain things people say here are Simpson's quotes or not but I just roll with it.
At least Fringe had a good 100 episode run, and Adventure Time isn't exactly on the bubble as far as I'm aware. I have to say I did not get the love for B&K at all, it was pretty much a mediocre sitcom from top to bottom as far as I'm concerned. I am very glad that I bought my Enlightened Bluray well before it was…
Shows pretty much always get shut out if they are suddenly canceled… see how Luck was ignored last year.
