Probably because history teachers are pretty desperate for movies that haven't been done to death. There aren't really very many halfway decent, quasi-accurate movies about American history that aren't about the Civil War and World War II.

Not to mention, how many sequels replace the entire cast and crew? And apparently with no change whatsoever in the resulting product, which makes you wonder why they bothered. They should do it again if they ever get around to part three and claim it's some kind of Solondz-esque meta-commentary.
That's pretty hilarious. You have to wonder if he first approached Mark Frost to write and then hired Scott when he couldn't get him (or got the brothers mixed up).
I didn't even think there was that much boring stuff compared to most bad movies, and most of it was lazy in a funny way. It was positively riveting compared to Birdemic or Manos.
I thought this movie was fine. I went to see this with a friend last night because there's not much else to do around where I live and I'd already seen roughly half of the movies out (Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Les Mis, Silver Linings Playbook, Jack the Giant Slayer, Oz the Great and Powerful… yeah there's not much…
So JMS must have been a Twin Peaks fan right? First Dr. Jacobi in the previous episode, and now Scott Frost writing (apparently his one and only script for the show). It goes to show how seminal that series was that everyone in the tv industry seems to have become (and remain) instant fans and you can see it's roots…
Daniel Handler has a brilliant paragraph on "Sandinista" in his book Adverbs that is seriously one of the best pieces of music criticism I've ever read (I would provide quotes but I can't look it up since I'm at work right now). It's not an album I listen to much outside of the first few tracks but that book…
Those guys are serious hacks. Yet their decent work on Lost (they weren't the best writers on the show but hey, they were full time writers for Lost) and Tron: Uprising leads me to believe they have some actual talent, they just realize they can make more money writing terrible, terrible fairy tale shows that…
@avclub-58238e9ae2dd305d79c2ebc8c1883422:disqus No, you are so wrong. "A Talking Cat!?!" is the funniest bad movie since The Room… everything about it is hysterical, including the title, the cat actor, the music, and the eyeball-searing opening credits. I started laughing about two seconds in and hardly stopped till…
I completely agree, that was the funniest and most clever comedy of the last decade or so. Criminally underrated.
Hm, again interesting, I thought there was something immediately off about that season that the show never recovered from (aside from a handful of episodes). Glad you're enjoying it more than I did!
I think I heard it was? It's a pretty difficult place to fake and a ton of shows shoot there so it wouldn't be as expensive to shoot there as New Orleans. I do wonder about the upcoming NO set spinoff though and whether they're actually planning on doing some location shooting there.
This is starting to look less like Chastain appreciation and more like a cry for help… get out while you still can Polar!
I don't know about the official production, most of the actors are American, but it's set in New Zealand and Jane Campion is from there so it counts in my book.
Oh come on there's a little more than that: Heavenly Creatures, The Piano, and Whale Rider for instance.
A few days late, but I caught up with this and I really, really like it. I adore The Piano but have yet to catch up with any of Campion's other films for some reason, I'll have to do that soon. I really love her sense of pacing: the atmosphere and the characters draw you in, while she takes her time to set up the…
Interesting, that's how I feel about season six. Though it does get pretty grim after The Body (which is actually pretty late in the season) it has a ton of comedy (Triangle, I Was Made to Love You, and The Replacement are all hilarious) and the plotting is fast paced enough post-The Body that it doesn't get dragged…
Man this show is bad. Like really, really bad. I'll watch a few episodes of just about anything (made it through four episodes of The Following and I'm still watching Smash and Cult) but I decided this show wasn't worth my time about 20 minutes in. The dialogue is atrocious and laughable, but not in a fun way, the…
Just don't bother with True Blood past season 2… it will make your life easier and save you from watching a lot of really terrible television.
Yeah that episode was one of the worst of the series and marked the point where the season completely fell apart. "The Good Soldier" would have been the better one to go with. It's a shame he's passed away though, he will definitely be hard to replace.
