I haven't checked out Nikita yet @avclub-b9a25e422ba96f7572089a00b838c3f8:disqus but I kind of miss the wacked out craziness of Ringer and seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar on my tv every week… I'd much rather see her in that show than some CBS sitcom.

Yeah I think they're still figuring that out. I can see Claire Holt signing on but they might decide that she fits in better over on VD, and Elijah has his Canadian doctor show thing so he would probably just be an occasional guest star. I can't even remember if any of the other Originals are still alive… it doesn't…

Yet they canceled Ringer which was more way more successful… I'll never understand how that channel makes it's decisions. Though Nikita is apparently pretty good so whatever works.
Ah very cool, I'm glad someone else is watching. It's very idiosyncratic and not for everyone, but I feel that way about all of HBO's comedies really.
Also Enlightened! Check it out: it's seriously one of the very best shows on television (certainly better than Girls, which I enjoy but is overrated) but for some reason no one seems very interested in talking about it. I'm hoping it will get a lot more love now that it's got such a good timeslot rather than being…
Yeah, Joseph Morgan is a fantastic actor and should certainly be capable of carrying a show, but I feel like Klaus is a pretty problematic character and I would probably have been happier if he died halfway through the third season (though he was pretty great in the last episode with his Christmas massacre). Perhaps…

There's going to a VD spinoff about The Originals? That's news to me… though Klaus becoming a lead character on some other show is preferable to him hanging out with the Mystic Falls gang forever (though I'm sure he'll return if this thing gets canceled), and apparently Phoebe Tonkin will be involved in it which can…

The King's Speech was a perfectly enjoyable movie, though she didn't add to it (though it didn't deserve most of it's Oscars) and I actually like Sweeney Todd a lot, but you're pretty much right. I have no clue how I've ended up seeing so much of her recent work, since I pretty much groan every time she shows up in a…

Can we just start flagging everything she posts if she shows up in the Enlightened comments? Usually I would think that's mean (I've never flagged someone) but I think most people would agree that it's justified in this case.
Interesting how he hasn't made a movie set in NY for ten years… like Woody Allen it seems that his interest is drifting elsewhere, the occasional return aside. His last four movies definitely tip the balance much further toward the "not NY" side.
Although the nominees actually seem pretty solid all around (as in I really liked the ones I've seen and am excited to see the rest), it does seem like the exclusions are pretty ridiculous, particularly The Master, Holy Motors, and Cloud Atlas. There has been a lot of good stuff in the mainstream this year though and…
In all honesty it's pretty wishful thinking to imagine that the Best Picture race would be interesting with Lincoln around. I was sure right after seeing that it would get just about all the major awards. Although the Best Supporting Actress race is pretty rough… it's equally easy to see Field, Adams, or Hathaway…
Oh you're definitely right there. This is all really a game of pretending we're fit to judge these things, which is also one that a lot of professional reviewers (and the people that vote for these things) play. Obviously I'm not a great judge of movies this year since I've probably only seen like 20 of the movies…
I've never felt even vaguely qualified to judge those two so I left them out… I'm not sure I even understand what sound editing or mixing is.
Absolutely bizarre. The only explanation I can think of is that not enough voters saw it. I can see how the film might not be everyone's cup of tea but it should have had a lock on Makeup, Film Editing, and Score regardless.
Mine would be Cloud Atlas for Best Picture of course. My ideal picks so far (keeping in mind that I'm not the best judge as I've yet to see many of these nominees, including Life of Pi, Les Miz, Zero Dark Thirty, Silver Linings Playbook, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Argo, Amour, or Wreck It Ralph as well as other…
