'conveyance without dialogue' is something I wish we had a lot more of in movies these days. There's been a lot of over-explaining and/or characters just flat out telling the audience what's going through their minds as of late.
Indeed, it's a very good way to make us extra invested in seeing Dudley go down. There's no over-exposition dialogue needed to show his conscience growing back, we just have no doubt that he's turned a corner, one that most people can really relate to… and then that's it for him. It's very effectively cruel.
