Hudson Hawke is so good it's good. It's just a really fun movie that doesn't take itself seriously in the slightest.

Same here. I saw it for the first time a few weeks back at an outdoor screening, and I was pretty amazed. Bartel really deserves to be better known — I've been a big DR2000 fan for a long while without realizing he had more movies worth looking into.

Killing a kid in the past has the potential to dramatically alter the timeline in ways you could never predict. Sending his adult self back's less complicated on that front. There's logic/paradox issues in the movie, but that one's pretty straightforward.

So did they build The Fall before or after the apocalypse? Because if it's before, it seems pretty convenient that those would be the only two countries left. And if it's after, that's… pretty much the largest engineering project ever attempted, which seems pretty tough to pull off after an apocalypse.

I don't know. The review's right that the chicken scene really overpowers everything else in the film, and completely colours the experience in a very nasty way. Without it, it's a great Southern noir. With it, it feels exploitative and misogynistic.

But the ambiguity already would've been undercut by them explaining that the autopilot was fixed. You'd have to cut out both those bits, or you pretty much have to assume he survived.
