Refused, despite the actually pretty uplifting lyrics. NiN - Broken is a solid choice, too. Veritas. And, depending on the mood, "Yer Blues" can be pretty cathartic.
He's from The Basics? As in, the Melbourne three-piece? The EP I have (which was mixed at Abby Road Studios) is definitely Beatles-esque retro rock, and they used to do the whole fab-four-style outfits, too.
I don't know, I actually think Harvey Danger's pretty great.
