I saw Source Code on Friday and it definitely lived up to my high expectations. I absolutely loved Moon so I was a little concerned with being disappointed in Gyllehaal. It wasn't a concern in the end though.

I love No Division but there are few things I love more than A Flight And A Crash.

Speaking of the job getting in the way, I missed the release party last Friday for the new Direct Hit! full-length, DOMESPLITTER, which is excellent in so many ways. They're my favorite band from Milwaukee and I really regret not seeing that show since they always bring it.

The new 7" is so much better than I'd ever hoped. I really can't wait for the full-length. I'm also fucking pissed that I couldn't see them in Milwaukee earlier this year. Stupid fucking job got in the way.

I bought tickets ahead of time for Plan Nine and I'm glad I did despite the couple glitches in audio. I haven't been to any of the other live events though.

I saw Cedar Rapids on Friday after getting back from an industry golf outing in Chicago. I really liked the ensemble of Reilly, Whitlock and Heche but I thought Ed Helms' innocent act got old about halfway through.

You know, I could point out that it's not the future, and there isn't a war, but you know me; I don't like to complain.

I watched The Mechanic on Saturday morning and it was OK. I've heard the original is a lot better but I thought Statham and Foster were pretty good.

I love it when comments are deleted, if only to experience the bleating cries of protest from those aggrieved enough to threaten to take their page-clicks elsewhere.

I'm going to see them tonight in Madison, with the Riverboat Gamblers and Dead to Me. Should be a good time. Anytime I'm just pissed off at world listening to OWTH always makes me feel better. I first got their All Things Move Toward Their End collection and followed it up with the Hospitals EP and was hooked.

And a dunk tank too. I fucking love dunk tanks.

@Kolchak - Planet Money did a good story on the rich leaving high tax states. It's a commonly used trope but not generally true until people retire. Until then the economic and social costs to moving greatly outweigh any increased tax burden.

The Gourds
Scrolling through my iPod I'd say the last five Gourds albums are pretty great.

I merely like Heaven Is Whenever whereas I straight-up love their first four albums. I can't get over the backing vocals in most of the songs.

Pierre Maguire is the worst.

Hot Water Music
Forever and Counting through Caution. Hell, I like The New What Next myself, but those five are all rock solid.

I saw Kill the Irishman on Friday night. Ray Stevenson is the shit.

Unless there was something completely different in the TV version there isn't any scene in Das Boot that involves the crew machine gunning Americans. The scene involves the sub surfacing after six hours underwater evading a depth charge attack after torpedoing three ships in a convoy. They discover a burning hulk of

I hadn't heard anything about this whole trial until yesterday. Was this just a big deal on cable news? I met up with an old friend last night for some sunset golf and she had to explain the whole thing to me since I'm apparently an idiot for not following the news.

Hagfish S/T
It's not the worst by any means, but it's been sitting at the top of the stack of LPs next to my record player and every morning when I'm making coffee I see it from across the room. Creeps me out.
