I'd have to disagree.  The patent system is like that so the little guy doesn't get screwed over.    Imagine if you had the idea to make nuclear power plants much more efficient.  If you were just someone in your backyard, of course there is no way for you to manufacture/run a plant - but that makes your idea no less…
