That is a good song also.
That is a good song also.
counterpoint: Thru the Eyes of Ruby is the greatest thing Billy Corgan has ever written.
I wish he'd gone a bit further in making it clear that the decadence was a deliberate theme in the music itself. As it was, he just sounded like a parody of himself on most of the tracks, and the album is sequenced really poorly - there's no ebb and flow on there like there was on Holy Wood, it's just track after…
If you do so, listen to "We All Go Back to Where We Belong" too. It's their final song and only appeared on the greatest-hits compilation. It's wonderful.
I agree that top 40 pop music is generally pretty bad. There's usually a few really good hits each year surrounded by a lot of garbage.
That's an interesting take, not one I hear very often. Great album though!
I think that's a you problem, not a them problem.
My brother messaged me the other day out of the blue and said "so, Monster is obviously the best REM album, right?" which reassured me that I've done my job as an older sibling correctly.
Oceania was very good too. And even Zeitgeist had "Tarantula" and "Doomsday Clock."
"Morphine" is one of his best, but unfortunately it was stranded as the only great song on an album that nobody bought
boooooooooooooooooo
MM, ranked:
Adore was a good album.
I never realized that's what "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite" is about but it makes so much sense. Great song, too.
"Lotus" is such a great, odd song.
Monster is so so good
And I'm following along!
Counterpoint: "Hold On" from Mule Variations is one of the best songs of his career.
U2 have made some amazing music, but I get why they're so polarizing. REM have a near-flawless discography (Reveal and Around the Sun being the only two real weak points, and even then they aren't bad) that should be revered as one of the best in rock music. They're due for a huge critical re-appraisal.
Their middle period has a whole lot of very irritating material, yes. But the rest of their stuff rules, and Pinkerton is one of the best albums ever.
