The books were sort of both. They're incredibly funny, but there's also some real visceral brutality in there, and it all feels sort of surreal and dreamlike. It's an odd tonal balance - the closest thing I can compare it to is a slightly more kid-friendly version of the goofier episodes of Hannibal's second season,

I think the second half of the series is the best. I like the really dark, borderline-existentialist stuff that it got into later on.

Seriously. That ending is fucking incredible.

What can I say, it scratches the indie-pop itch like nothing else.

Counterpoint: Wincing the Night Away is by far their best album.

I love how queasy and odd Spilt Needles is. It kind of sounds like it's being played backward, even though it isn't.

I've really liked both of the singles.

…if you're not gonna date her, can I have her number?

Phantom Limb is one of the best songs ever.

The Rifle's Spiral is one of Mercer's best songs.

Oh hell yes.

The oppo file would not have mattered. Look at all the shit the dems had on Trump. It didn't change a thing.

I was just thinking that I should mention Bartimaeus! Those books were wonderful. Really nuanced and daring.

'Joined the Skeleton War'

Oh. Fair enough.

I would be really looking forward to a long-form series version of the Harry Potter movies - god knows it suits the story better than cramming each book into a single movie - if not for the fact that I don't think they'll ever get the casting that perfectly right again.

He's genuinely evil, but he's also frequently incredibly stupid. The conclusion I drew from the books was that he was often a tool for more competent and sinister VFD partisans.

Tarantino needs to get involved.

I was sort of hoping Sir would be depicted with a cloud of smoke instead of a face. The show's gonna have to embrace surrealism a little bit if it wants to stay true to the spirit of the books.
