The guy's got this full-beam intensity we normally only see in short bursts, but in these monologues he gets to lay it on in this direct, searing honesty. They're epic speeches by his laconic standards.

This show can do more with a few seconds of one of Travis Fimmel's glowering closeups than most shows do with an hour of photography.

"Year 17 Of The Raven: We resolved to lay off the 'shrooms"

Tori Amos did a real husky, stool-grinding performance of this during her early touring days.

That video, particularly the glowing eyes, used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. Fortunately the incredibly dorkish face of that final boy poorly lipsynching right at the end, used to snap me out of it.

Ecbert's robe was beautifully embroidered, a real piece of Anglo-Saxon artistry. Nice to see something so delicate among all those bland leather jerkins.

She was the second real gig I ever went to (Suzanne Vega was the first). I was 18 and she had just released Little Earthquakes. It was very good. I kind of fell away from her as the years went on but I still have an immense fondness for her.

Might I suggest that the Gaye family has got to give it up?

She was going to play the villaness Veronica Cale on that thankfully cancelled NBC Wonder Woman show.

Alexandra Park is also the home of the Auckland Trotting Club!

Lagertha's hair was fantastic tonight. That braiding must take hours.

England is still boring, but at least these days they have nice pastries to go with the pissing and fratricide.

"Oh wow they made me up so pretty! Everyone's looking at me! Lagertha even got dressed up special! This is the best day of my bovine life…hey bro, whatcha doing with that axe? Is it a present?"

Soon Rollo and his chums will inaugurate the phrase "see Paris and die".

I sure hope Ecbert put on a better showing with Lagertha than his one-minute-wonder with Kwenthrith. Especially considering he was half-drunk. Disappointing a shieldmaiden in the sack could see one shortened by a head.

God I love hearing Anglo-Saxon spoken. It's so earthy and primal.

Waldruna seemed all the more potent and appropriate tonight with the mystical happenings.

This is a fantastic movie on a poorly-served subject. It has a general sense of tension and chaos which serve as a pretty good depiction of the Troubles as a whole. I don't know so much about "Cameron '86" - personally I thought the vibe was more "Carpenter '81".
