The breakdown that David's old friend Tracy has is one of my favourite moments in the series…She's pathetic and weepy and says something like, "You think you've hit the absolute bottom of sadness and loneliness, and then you find out there's this other whole level."

Ruth
I've mentioned this in a previous show's comments, but I love how Ruth actually seems to be getting more self-aware as the series progresses. She's still Fisher-level crazy, but it's as if she begins to recognize it once her husband is gone. She's willing to see what's out there instead of retreating into

I recall that the artist was credited with the inspiration in the credits of one of the shows. I, too, found that artwork very cool and original.

Comedy series
I always just kind of felt that this was a really dark comedy. All the horrible things that happen to the people in this show kind of made me laugh. Perhaps I couldn't do anything else.

I think that the emotional trajectory of Ruth's character is one of the most satisfying one in the series. She really seems to come to terms with her life by the end of everything. She gradually becomes closer to her children and begins to realize what she wants from the life she has left.

But later, doesn't the cowboy give him the big satisfied "oh you ARE versatile!" as David pounds him?

NON-STOP? Literally?

I believe that's "gu-ra-su-ho-pa"

Ike & Tina
"…singing it so wildly that he yelled at her for nearly blowing out the recording equipment"

I'm telling you, there's a screenplay in there: gay fanboy ruins gay actor's career via the internet so he's got a chance to bang the former star.

Yeah, these writeups and comments are really getting into the characters' heads…I never thought that deeply about it. It's interesting.

I loved that scene for the same reason. It's one of the visuals that sticks with me even though it's been years since I've watched the show (I'm not following along at home).

@ Ack ack: Yeah, it sounds like the Netflix all the Americans are talking about actually has some good shows and popular movies on it. That's why I didn't understand why everyone's pissed off. If the Canadian version was all that the online-streaming service was, people would be ditching it in droves.

Fuck Opryland!
KINGS ISLAND!

I always thought Ruth's change from a repressed housewife to a reasonably well-adjusted widow was one of the best arcs in the series. Too bad it takes so much loss to find.

Yeah, that's one of the first time that Claire and Ruth bond, and it's a nice little moment.

Somehow I always kind of saw it as a very dark comedy, so that kind of makes sense.

American stations used to do that too, didn't they? And in return, they had to run those 10-minute scrolling ads late at night that listed the pages of documentation that went with the vague commercials?

Can they still sell Mini-Thins or other pseudo-ephedrine pills over the counter at gas stations in the states?

Companies that sell cigarettes in Asia also sometimes have luxury items like cologne or watches that they can advertise instead of cigarettes, showing men being manly in mountains or on lakes (but not smoking).
