I'd love to see him pick that one up again (maybe alternate Forgotbusters and MWOF from week to week), as well as Vs. the IMDB 250, but even if Pitchfork is willing to allow the former Dissolve writers to continue their regular features from that site elsewhere, the AV Club has been so thorough in ignoring The

I haven't seen it yet, but I am kind of amused the bad guys in the movie used the same trick that Snake tried to do to Homer after Homer bought Snake's car at a car auction. And that episode aired 16 years before The Counselor even came out!

He does have a habit of following one or two good movies with several average-to-awful movies in a row. Alien and Blade Runner begat Legend, Someone to Watch Over Me and Black Rain. Thelma & Louise begat 1492, White Squall, and GI Jane. He had a solid run in the early aughts with Gladiator, Black Hawk Down,

Probably only the ones with good sarsaparilla.

The only really interesting thing I did was on Saturday night, when I went with friends to the new restaurant here in Dallas that's been described as Hooters with male waiters. It's called Tallywackers, and the all-male waitstaff wears tiny gray shorts and red tanktops which they are more than happy to take off on

He also really, really, really, really hated Homer's Enemy, as I recall. He spent the next few years after it aired complaining about it every chance he got.

How do we know you're not Mark Aaron Richey? Maybe you owe me $5.

I'm MarkInTexas. I'm not going to reveal any more than that on a public site. Whatever conclusions you wish to draw beyond that is up to you.

He probably would have Yahoo'd it.

My guess is that Mark Aaron Richey, whoever he is or was, wasn't particularly good at spelling. Remember, in 1997, Netscape didn't come with red lines to highlight misspelled words and a built-in spell-check available at a click of a mouse.

Which is the reason I suspect Mark Aaron Richey, whoever he is or was, didn't use Google or Wikipedia when he tossed off his one-liner about Balzac back then.

I also get annoyed when he's presented as dense in the present day. Bart isn't as smart as Lisa, of course, but he is a long way from stupid, and episodes like "Bart Gets an F", where he studies his ass off and still can only manage a D- at the end really bug me.

My mid-sized college town didn't have the WB, even as a secondary affiliate (one of the other stations in town ran UPN programming in the overnight hours, except for Voyager, which I think was shown on Sundays after the 10:00 news).

I'm guessing that Mark Aaron Richey, whoever he is or was, knew very little about classic French literature at that time, and made that comment without benefit of Google or Wikipedia. I also wouldn't be surprised if he mainly made it for that joke. And it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Mark Aaron Richey, whoever

To be fair to Mark Aaron Richey, whoever he is or was, he was probably only a college student in the fall of 1997, who only vaguely remembered Twin Peaks from when he was in middle school, during which he only watched a couple of really weird episodes that made no sense to his 13-year-old mind, and hadn't seen any of

I thought he was innocent in the movie. The stage play, which I saw about two months before the movie, left it far more ambiguous, I thought.

Wow…I now regret that I actually played to win everytime I played YDKJ (which I did a lot in college—usually by myself, since my friends had better things to do).

That song was used in a Pepsi ad a few years ago showing Santa on summer vacation that ran incessantly, so that's now what I think of whenever I hear that song.

Kids also brought us Chloe Sevigny, so it has that going for it too.

The problem with labeling Showgirls as satire is that we have two genuine examples of Verhoeven-directed satires in RoboCop and Starship Troopers. Both those movies work as sci-fi action even if you don't pick up on either film's satirical bent. Showgirls doesn't work at all as the sexy drama its supposed to be on
