The characterization is obviously the biggest reason those scenes were so hard to watch, but also from a technical standpoint, just that we saw everyone else's reactions long before we actually saw Lane made it all the worse.

Seconded, Baking, with a fucking vengeance.
Usual Suspects is totally telegrpahed: Spacey's initial scene tried very hard to disprove him - the line about the piss, fumbling with the lighter, and his gimpy gait, all of which were stark contrasts to the initial boat-burning scene. On first viewing, I actually said out loud, "why are they trying so hard to prove…
Yeah, I felt bad to see her name attached to this.
QUICK! EVERYONE PIRATE A COPY OF "HOWARD THE DUCK"!
Oh, and just for the record, whenever the first three seasons get a US DVD release, buy copies for you and your friends.
As a public service announcement to all my fellow Yanks on this board - get yourselves a copy of THE THICK OF IT by any means possible. It makes IN THE LOOP seem like Two and a Half Men by comparison.
I'll second that - if the directing or acting was half as good in Watchmen it would've been a decent flick.

EXACTLY. For a lot of the series Ann reacts to everything around her instead of having her own agenda and goals. I thought ever since she landed the part time job, she'd get wrapped up in some public initiative that would have her fighting for something. How great would it be if there was an arc where she was pushing…
