Well, I've never read anything 10 times: too much new stuff to read. So if it's really necessary to give his stuff multiple rereadings to get it, he's not for me. But I enjoyed Home Fires enough to want to try an earlier book or two. From the mentions earlier in this thread I'm thinking about Peace and The Fifth Head

Home Fires was my first Wolfe…always meant to get around to him, this showed up on a library newsletter and looked intriguing. Glad to hear it's not him at his best, because I had some problems with it. He set up an intriguing future, then barely filled in any details. And then the book kept changing
