I just can't accept that "you're going to be disappointed in life" is the best moral/conclusion/outlook to that kind of adventure story. Even the -characters- were disappointed. The writers couldn't even bring themselves to have their own characters be excited about what they were seeing. Ugh, it just pains me so much.

You didn't think it was HUGE shift in tone? I felt like I got up, walked out of the theater, and sat down in an entirely different movie. I don't think any movie can survive that dramatic of a shift, especially in the final act. Plus any crumb of character development evaporates and the kids are just left looking at…

The first 3/4 of Explorers is one of my favorite movies. Watching the ending is physically painful. I think this is a prime candidate for a remake if they can retool the ending, keep the focus on the characters, and reel in the alien side of things.

I was rather surprised to see that Stacey was only 29… I had her pegged for 40. Hard livin', but it suits her.
