"Gene executed well in all three phases of the game. He wrote some good songs, made a lot of money, and had sex with a lot of willing women. That's what being a rock star is about. Any more questions? Yes, Peter?"

It's funny that these recaps are featured on the front page today, because both episodes are about to be broadcast on Soapnet at 2:00 PM. And, if you miss them today, you can catch them tomorrow at 11:00 AM EST. (The third season premiere starts at 10:00.) And, if you decide to watch Veronica Mars before the NFL kicks

If I were in charge of the TV Club I'd have been in favor of dropping the show. After last season I was hoping that Kenneth Johnson and Chad Coleman would end up being semi-regulars, but it didn't happen. I like Patton Oswalt just fine, but he's pretty ubiquitous right now.

Until a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have put Beach House's "Bloom" on any top twenty-five list, but it's really grown on me lately. The list seems to be comprised of a lot of older acts making comeback records, so maybe we'll see Beach House again in 2022.

If you want to dive in to one of his records instead of a compilation, start with either Scott 2 or Scott 4.  Scott 2 is his best showcase as an interpreter of other songwriters, and the originals are pretty strong. Scott 4's my favorite, but it's the toughest of the first four to find.  I wouldn't start with Scott 3,

I'm from New England, where Popeye's are scarce and where Bojangles is a company that runs ads during the ACC football or basketball Game of the Week. I won't go near KFC, but I'll make a side trip to either Popeye's or Bojangles if I'm in VA or NC.  And it's always funny to see a line out the door at Bojangles across

As far as I"m concerned, Bob Seger gets a bad rap. He's never been hip by any stretch, but none of the songs that charted during the late 70's - early 80's was bad,  save for maybe "Horizontal Bop". Whenever I meet someone from suburban New York CIty, no matter what type of music they liked and that they normally listen to - punk, metal, whatever - they almost always ending up revealing that they like Billy Joel in addition to, say, Jawbox and Husker Du. I can't think of any other musical act that has a hold on

I'd put "Uptown Girl" right up there with "We Built This City" and "Kokomo" on the list of the worst songs of the 80's. "Keeping the Faith" might make the top 100.
