I think we're both right
When Maude died, they handled it beautifully. Even if the new death-related stupidity was inspired by Maude's death, I don't fault the episode. Of course, we all have opinions.

Another note
The death of Maude Flanders was the perfect encapsulation of this showâs former genius. The episode approached the tragedy with a rare balance of tact and humor, making the episode funny without making it mean-spirited. There were never many shows that could do that. Now, there arenât any.

Yes, you can pick your jerks. "Matchmaking" places you against random assholes of your approximate measured skill, but you can set up a game exactly how you want it and invite your friends. It's a pretty slick system.
