Hulk, Ennis, etc.
I read PLANET HULK as it came out and it left me a little disappointed. The premise is awesome but after a while it just seemed like slog from Point A to the inevitable Point B. But it did have a surprising amount of emotion to it. I'd recommend it but I wish I'd liked it more.

Italics..
I'm not seeing that. Is anyone else?

I wish I like the big phone book-style collections the big companies put out, but I miss the color too much.

Kirby and newsprint
I was disappointed that the omnibus was in newsprint as well, especially since DC's archives series has such high production values. But it's at least high quality newsprint. I'm spoiled. I wish I liked the B

Aldrich
By sheer coincidence I watched a Robert Aldrich movie this weekend, THE BIG KNIFE. What a strange moment in time when Jack Palance could be cast to play a character who's both the biggest star in Hollywood and a universal sex symbol.

Err…
A Home At The End Of The World, I mean.

At Home At The End Of The World
Really good book. Really mediocre movie.

Spielberg and Ryan
I like SAVING PRIVATE RYAN quite a bit and I'd like it better without the silly framing device. (Same with BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY… No, really.) What's striking to me is that RYAN made the list and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS dropped out. Now that's a great movie. But then my favorite Spielberg film is

Should be fixed now.

TV / Commentary Tracks Of The Damned
TV… Hmm… But when would be a good time to launch such a section?

Books / R.E.M.
For Beach Boys books I like THE NEAREST FARAWAY PLACE: THE BEACH BOYS AND THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EXPERIENCE by Timothy White. It's out of print, but copies are going for as little as 76 cents on Amazon.

Tina Majorino
Whoah, Mac from VERONICA MARS was the girl from WATERWORLD? And now she's reunited with Jeanne Tripplehorn on BIG LOVE?

Surf's Up, etc.
Oh yeah. Those albums are great, too. (I wrote a long review of the lot when they came out on CD a few years back: http://www.avclub.com/conte…

Lynch, etc.
But Lynch's old TWIN PEAKS buddy Mark Frost _did_ co-write the screenplays to both Fantastic Four movies. So maybe it all does come back to Twin Peaks.

Want to see
I was in the same situation. The previews make the effects look cool and make the film look less goofy than the first one.

RT live
No one should ever pass up a chance to see Richard Thompson live. As good as his best albums are—and he's done a few all-time favorites—he's undescribaly terrific in concert.

Rating…
It's PG-13. Sorry for the error.

High Noon
Actually, it was Hawks who hated HIGH NOON. He didn't think a true hero would wander around town all day whining about how no one would help him. So note how, even though he's badly outnumbered, Wayne doesn't complain or show any weakness. When Ward Bond complains for him, he winds up dead.

Only Angels
Yeah, ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS is kind of the ur-text for Hawksian elements, isn't it? Great movie.

Grading
Yeah, grading this was tough. I have to say that I enjoyed watching it. But would I recommend it to someone looking for a "good" movie? Can't do it. It's the kind of high-gloss crazy b-movie that Hollywood has been churning out since FATAL ATTRACTION and I appreciate it for that. I've enjoyed those films with
